Rapid CNC Prototyping in 72 Hours

A robotics customer needed a functional connector prototype before an upcoming design review. The part had multiple mounting surfaces and several features that required confirmation before machining.

With only 72 hours available, the project required fast engineering decisions and close coordination between material preparation, programming, machining, and inspection.

Rapid DFM Review

Our engineering team reviewed the 3D model and drawing immediately after receiving the files. The review focused on critical tolerances, mounting surfaces, tool access, internal corners, and surface-finish requirements.

Several design details were confirmed with the customer before production. This prevented unnecessary machining delays and reduced the risk of rework.

Parallel Production Planning

Material preparation, CNC programming, and inspection planning were arranged in parallel rather than handled as separate steps.

The main datums and assembly features were machined first. Non-critical areas used practical machining tolerances to save time without affecting the connector’s function.

The inspection team prepared the measurement plan while machining was in progress, allowing the finished part to move directly into quality control.

Inspection and Delivery

Critical dimensions, mounting surfaces, hole positions, and overall geometry were inspected against the customer’s drawing. The connector was also checked for burrs and surface defects before packaging.

The prototype was completed within 72 hours and delivered in time for the customer’s design review. It was successfully used for assembly and motion testing, helping the customer verify the design before moving to the next development stage.
