Level 3 of the five-tier hierarchy for mechanical engineering professionals

Engineers at this level are capable of creating the industry’s best products. They differ qualitatively from Level 4 engineers

not only in terms of technical proficiency, market insight, understanding of user psychology, and organizational ability, but also in their innate aptitude and intuitive grasp of the field. While such intuition is often cultivated over time, the process requires a significant investment of years. Some individuals may spend eight to ten years

enduring repeated failures and constant reflection

before finally experiencing a breakthrough moment of clarity. In Silicon Valley, a select few engineers have reached this level in just five or six years. However, regardless of intelligence or foundational strength, achieving this tier requires a substantial investment of time in actual engineering work; a young professional who shifts into administrative management after only four or five years will likely never reach this level. Engineers who attain this tier do so through a combination of steadfast determination, years of arduous effort, innate talent, and a measure of good fortune

ultimately propelling them to new heights. It is often said that opportunity favors the prepared; these engineers are the ones whom opportunity favors, precisely because they are thoroughly prepared. They are the industry’s elite, possessing unique instincts, systematic approaches, and original insights regarding technology and products, and they have created offerings that garner industry-wide acclaim. I believe this top tier can be further subdivided into three grades: junior, intermediate, and senior. The “junior” grade comprises those who, through long-term effort, have mastered the technology and demonstrated a rapid ability to understand and apply new innovations; they are capable of serving as product managers or CTOs at typical companies. The “intermediate” grade builds upon this foundation by incorporating personal artistic sensibility and a synthesis of long-term experience and insights. This results in a comprehensive and fundamentally sound understanding of technology, products, aesthetics, users, and the market

surpassing the capabilities of most technically proficient engineers. Reaching the upper echelons of this level often requires a stroke of good timing

such as joining a mobile internet startup just as the sector is taking off, or developing a product that becomes an industry-defining success.

Brass material properties
Brass is a copper-zinc alloy with varying additions of lead, tin, aluminum, or other elements to enhance its properties. Common types include red brass, yellow brass, leaded brass, and naval brass (which contains added tin for marine applications).

These materials offer numerous advantages for CNC machining, including:

Excellent machinability: Brass exhibits superior chip formation and tool life during machining, allowing for faster production speeds and reduced tool wear.
Corrosion resistance: Brass is naturally corrosion-resistant and requires no additional coating, making it ideal for components exposed to moisture, saltwater, and certain chemicals.
Thermal and electrical conductivity: With its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, brass is well-suited for applications requiring efficient energy transfer without compromising structural integrity.
Aesthetics: Brass features a golden appearance and takes a high polish, offering an attractive finish that enhances product value.
