Surface Treatment of Materials—Galvanizing Process
A surface treatment technique in which a layer of zinc is applied to the surface of steel and steel alloy materials to enhance aesthetics and provide rust protection. The zinc layer on the surface acts as an electrochemical protective barrier that prevents metal corrosion. The primary methods used are hot-dip galvanizing and electrogalvanizing.
Applicable Materials:
Since the galvanizing process relies on metallurgical bonding technology, it is suitable only for the surface treatment of steel and iron.
Process Costs: No tooling costs; short lead time; moderate labor costs, as the surface quality of the workpiece depends largely on manual surface preparation prior to galvanizing.
Environmental Impact: Since the galvanizing process extends the service life of steel components by 40–100 years and effectively prevents rust and corrosion, it plays a positive role in environmental protection. Additionally, galvanized components can be returned to the galvanizing bath at the end of their service life; the repeated reuse of molten zinc does not generate chemical or physical waste.
